Dr. Julio Pita M.D. Handy Manual for Patients with Type II Diabetes - Endcrinologist Physician, Internal Medicine, Diabetes Doctor, Metabolisim Physician Miami, Florida

Dr. Pita was born in Havana, Cuba and arrived in the United States in 1961 at the age of fifteen. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1967, with highest honors.

He attended Washington University in St. Louis Medical School where he graduated at the top of his class in 1972. He returned to the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Miami, where he completed his Residency and was Chief Medical Resident in Medicine between 1972 and 1974. He then went to the National Cancer Institute (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was a Fellow in Endocrinology between 1974 and 1976. He became Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1975 and in the sub-specialty of Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1977. In 2002 Dr. Pita attended the University of Miami Business School where he obtained a Master’s in Business Administration, again graduating with highest honors. Since 1976 to the present Dr. Pita has been in the private practice of Endocrinology in Miami, Florida. He has held multiple leadership positions at Mercy Hospital, in Miami, being Chief of Medicine between 1987 and 1991, president of the Medical Staff between 1992 and 1993, and member of the Board of Trustees of Mercy Hospital from 1993 to 2002. He has also held multiple leadership positions in both local and national Health Care organizations, including chairmanship of the Mercy Health Board, between 1997 and 2002, Chairman of the Board of Doctor Care between 2002 and 2004. He was vice-president of Medical Affairs for the Diabetes Treatment Centers of America between 1999 and 2001. He was a member of the National Medical Advisory Board of the Diabetes Treatment Centers of America between 1987 and 2002, he was chairman of the Advisory Committee of Clinical Endocrinologists in 1987 and 1988. He was Chief Medical Director of the Diabetes Treatment Center at Mercy Hospital between 1986 and 2002. Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami between 1976 and 2002.

Dr. Pita has published multiple articles in the areas of Endocrinology and Diabetes. He recently published a book in Spanish for the Hispanic patient with type 2 diabetes.

From a personal point of view, Dr. Pita married Patricia, his wife, in August of 1967. He has three children: Julio, Yvette and Victor and nine grandchildren. He is now enjoying his family. When he is not busy with his practice he enjoys golf and swimming.
